Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit
The Loyola Medicine Cardiothoracic Surgery ICU is staffed 24/7 by faculty and residents from the Department of Anesthesiology. Our faculty comes from various training programs from around the country to foster a unique learning environment. Our residents also work alongside our cardiac surgeons and fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, respiratory therapists, and physical and occupational therapists to create a multidisciplinary team experience.
A major center for heart and lung transplants in the Midwest, Loyola Medicine is the regional referral center for the most critically ill and challenging cardiac surgery cases. Areas of specialization include heart and lung transplant management, pre-and post-op coronary bypass, valve, and lung surgeries. We also have extensive experience in managing advanced cases involving mechanical devices, including ECMO, Impella, and ventricular assist devices.
