Crain鈥檚 Chicago Business Honors SES Dean Nancy Tuchman 

Crain鈥檚 Chicago Business has named , founding dean of 草莓社区鈥檚 School of Environmental Sustainability (SES), among their . The honor recognizes Tuchman鈥檚 accomplishments at Loyola and her impact in advancing environmental education and stewardship.

 

Dean Nancy Tuchman, PhD, was among the 2024 Notable Leaders in Sustainability recognized in Crain's Chicago Business.

Throughout her 35-year career at 草莓社区, Nancy Tuchman has been a driving force in incorporating environmental sustainability into the university鈥檚 operations and academic programs. Tuchman took on the role of director of the newly founded Institute for Environmental Sustainability (IES) in 2013, with the charge of building an interdisciplinary school of the environment and bringing Loyola to national prominence in environmental science and sustainability. 

In 2020, the university expanded IES to establish the School of Environmental Sustainability, Loyola鈥檚 newest school and the first school of sustainability at any Jesuit university worldwide. Under Tuchman鈥檚 leadership, SES has developed eight interdisciplinary undergraduate programs, launched a master鈥檚 degree program in environmental science and sustainability, nearly tripled the school鈥檚 faculty, and expanded student enrollment to over 500 annually. 

Building on two decades of investments in education, research, and action addressing the planetary ecological crisis, Tuchman鈥檚 leadership has consistently placed Loyola in the top 5 percent of greenest colleges in the nation.
