| Description: | This elective is designed as a neurosurgical sub-internship, with the student immersed in Clinical Neurosurgery. The clinical experience will encompass the entire spectrum of neurosurgery, including trauma/critical care, cerebrovascular/endovascular, tumor/cranial base, pediatrics, complex spine and deformity, and peripheral nerve. The student will be an integral part of the neurosurgical team, assuming responsibilities on the floor, ICU, operating room, and outpatient clinic. Education will focus on interpretation of diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, angiography); the neurological exam; and the principles of pre-operative and post-operative management. Students will be required to attend the primary Neurosurgery educational conferences, and will present one lecture on the topic of their choice. Call with the neurosurgery residents is highly encouraged. |
