Students typically complete the MD/MA program concurrently while in medical school, so most finish in about 3 ½ years. Students typically start the program in the second semester of their first year of medical school.

Tuition

The MD/MA in Bioethics & Health Policy program's tuition follows the MA in Science rates per credit hour.

No, you are not required to write a thesis for the MD/MA dual-degree program. Students are required to write a publishable-quality paper for a capstone course near the end of their program. 

As cutting-edge health care technologies develop, biomedical issues surface that may impact your daily practice as a physician. The MD/MA dual-degree teaches you how to address those dilemmas and provide the best possible care to every patient you treat. 

It also positions you to effect change in the industry by joining an ethics committee, serving on an ethics consultation team, participating in an institutional review board (IRB), or leading in the field through teaching or research. 

Yes, you can transfer up to two independent study courses (six credits) from your medical school curriculum towards the MA in Bioethics and Health Policy degree requirements.

The Bioethics master's program is only available online. However, students are encouraged to take BEHL 410 Ethics Consultations Simulation, a hybrid course taught in the summer that requires eight weeks of online classes and three days on campus in late June.
