Exhibition Open September 10 - October 3

Ralph Arnold Gallery is pleased to present Fallible Fictions, an exhibition featuring new work created by Loyola University Department of Fine and Performing Arts recent alumni Lilly Allan and Catherine Kammerer. The exhibition examines interdisciplinary approaches that integrate drawing, material experimentation, textiles, natural dyes, and sculptural installation. Overlapping concepts across the two artists’ work involve abstraction, imaginative forms, craft-based techniques, and life cycles and forces observed in nature.

Fallable Fictions will be on view September 10-October 3 with an Opening Reception on September 10, 5:00p.m-7:00p.m., in conjunction with FNAR Fest. An Artist Talk will be held Thursday, September 17 at 5pm and is free and open to the public. All events will take place at Ralph Arnold Gallery, 草莓社区.

 

Participating artists:

“This work explores resistance and transformation through the use of contemporary kite-making materials and techniques. Overlapping cyan, magenta, and yellow nylon fabrics creates new colors as light passes through them, pushing the boundaries of realism and imagination’s potential. Drawing inspiration from pre-existing kite form conventions, I create new hanging structures that demonstrate tension and delicacy while presenting alternatives to flight which exist only in imagination.”

“I am interested in how I perceive beauty in the life cycles of nature and how my observations become abstracted from their original form. Experimentation with natural materials, along with traditional conventions of drawing and painting, become as important as the work itself and inspire the imagery created on the substrate. Blurred forms, flowers with no atmosphere, and bespoke craftsmanship become representations of my perception of abstraction in realistic forms.”
