Choral Ensembles
Under the umbrella of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, the choral program at 草莓社区 offers four choirs: University Chorale, University Singers, Chamber Choir (Ignatian Voices), and Liturgical Choir.
In recent years, the choirs have performed Fauré’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Brahms’ Requiem, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Orff’s Carmina Burana, David Lang’s Little Match Girl Passion, James Whitbourn’s Annelies, Cecilia McDowall’s The Girl from Aleppo, and Sarah Kirkland Snider’s Mass for the Endangered. In 2019, they premiered Wendel Patrick’s My Four Suns, with poetry by Ursula Rucker. Committed to environmental justice, the choirs frequently perform at the annual LUC Climate Conference in collaboration with the dance division and in 2025 premiered the new eco-mass, Missa Laudato Si by Dongryul Lee. Since 2013, they have produced sold-out performances of Lessons & Carols, a popular holiday program.
The choirs have worked with professional ensembles, such as the William Ferris Chorale, Bella Voce, New Earth Ensemble, the Canadian Chamber Choir, and the Lincoln Trio, as well as LUC ensembles including Symphony Orchestra, the Wind Ensemble, the Percussion Ensemble, the Jazz Ensemble, and many other visiting artists. They have toured Italy twice in recent years and have also performed in venues around the Chicagoland area.
Students can register for their first-choice ensemble (excluding MUSC 207) but may be asked to move to another ensemble following , which are held at the beginning of each semester.
