Advancing Community Engaged Research
The Community Engaged Design Lab  is a collaborative session structured to bring together faculty, students, and community partners to help research projects move forward in an ethical, strategic way—with community realities at the center.
The goal of each session is to create a space where collaborators can build community across disciplines and professions, co-design new approaches, and engage with live research problems in order to generate actionable ideas for Chicago’s communities.

Black Educator Presence, Stability, Funding, and Student Trajectories
We are convening a Design Lab focused on Black educator stability, funding equity, and student trajectories across Illinois. This interactive session will bring together educators, researchers, community organizations, and policy leaders to help shape an emerging statewide research agenda and identify actionable pathways for equity-centered systems change.

Session One: Migration
Led by: Dr. Michele Kenfack
Reimagining what strategy and participation looks like for Our Wonderful City, a project focused on equitably supporting new arrivals when traditional data collection is not possible

Session Two: Grounds For Play
Led by: Dr. Teresa Irene Gonzalez
Focusing on race, space, and joyful cities, the project homes in on how collective play fosters civic engagement in marginalized communities.
