Dr. Maria Akchurin is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at 草莓社区, where she regularly teaches environmental sociology and urban sociology. Her research examines social and environmental questions relating to urban water provision, conflicts over land use and water availability in areas with mining activity, the politics of environmental remediation and community consultation in Latin America, and unequal exposures to environmental hazards in Chicago. Dr. Akchurin's research has appeared in City & Community, Law & Social Inquiry, Extractive Industries and Society, Sociology of Development, The Sociological Quarterly, American Sociological Review, and the European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
