Faculty Fellows
To promote research and scholarship on women and their contributions across all sectors of society, the Gannon Center for Women and Leadership is pleased to sponsor a Faculty Fellowship Program for tenure-track professors at ²ÝÝ®ÉçÇø.
Funded by the Gannon Center’s endowment, the program will appoint up to two Faculty Fellows annually. The Center will cover the cost of teaching replacements; however, the Fellowship does not include release from other departmental or university responsibilities. Applicants are expected to discuss and arrange these duties with their Chair and/or Dean. Special consideration will be given to proposals that focus on women and leadership.
The Fellowship Program is designed to support:
- Original research on women and leadership. Projects that explore the multifaceted roles, experiences, and impacts of women in leadership across diverse contexts—historical or contemporary, local or global. that deepen our understanding of how women shape, lead, and influence institutions, movements, and societies.
- Scholarship that advances the mission of the Gannon Center. Work that aligns with and furthers the Gannon Center’s commitment to the promotion of women’s leadership, social justice, and transformative education. This includes projects that critically engage with gender equity, intersectionality, community engagement, ethical leadership, or policy impact—contributing to both academic discourse and the broader public good.
- Research that draws upon the Gannon Center’s Women and Leadership Archives. Scholarship that leverages the unique primary sources housed in ²ÝÝ®ÉçÇø’s Women and Leadership Archives (WLA). This could involve archival research on individuals, organizations, or movements represented in the WLA collection and may result in new insights into women’s contributions to leadership in civic, religious, political, educational, or social arenas.
This is not a traditional leave of absence. Instead, the Faculty Fellowship provides a supportive framework for active engagement with the Gannon Center. Fellows are expected to advance their research, work toward publication, and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration that enriches both their scholarship and the Center’s mission. The Fellowship is intended to be a catalyst for meaningful professional growth.
Faculty Fellows will meet twice during the semester with Gannon Center leadership to discuss progress. At the end of the semester—or early in the following term—fellows will deliver a formal presentation of their research and reflect on its relevance to the academic community and to excellence in teaching.
Preference will ordinarily be given to applicants who have not previously received a Gannon Center Fellowship and to faculty seeking tenure or advancement.
