Kamran M. Mirza

MD, PhD • Clinical Professor of Pathology; Godfrey Dorr Stobbe Professor of Pathology Education; Assistant Chair of Education; Director, Division of Training Programs and Communication; Department of Pathology, University of Michigan Medical School   

Kamran Mirza, MD, PhD, is Professor of Pathology at the University of Michigan Medical School and a nationally recognized physician-educator known for leadership in medical education, mentorship, and innovation. He holds the Godfrey Dorr Stobbe Endowed Chair in Pathology Education and serves as Assistant Chair for Education and Director of Training Programs and Communication, overseeing initiatives across undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education. 

Dr. Mirza is widely recognized for advancing learner-centered and equitable approaches to training physicians. He is co-founder of PathElective, an open access educational platform that has reached learners around the world, expanding access to high quality pathology education across institutions and resource settings. His work emphasizes the formation of physicians who are intellectually rigorous, ethically grounded, and committed to service. 

A dedicated mentor, Dr. Mirza has received numerous institutional and national teaching awards and has been named multiple times to The Pathologist magazine’s Power List of the field’s most influential professionals. He has held leadership roles in national medical and pathology organizations and is a sought-after speaker on medical education, hematopathology, ethics, and the thoughtful integration of emerging technologies in healthcare. 

Dr. Mirza has deep roots at ²ÝÝ®ÉçÇø, where he served on the faculty of the Stritch School of Medicine and as Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The Class of 2026 holds special significance for him as the final matriculating class he taught at Stritch before joining the University of Michigan. 

Dr. Mirza earned his medical degree from Aga Khan University in Pakistan and his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Illinois, Chicago. He completed residency and fellowship training at the University of Chicago.
