CAS-AC Curricular Review

The Academic Council of the College of Arts and Sciences is charged by its to formulate the academic aims of the College, oversee the quality of education in the College, and establish such policies as will promote these aims. Its members represent the faculty of the College (as organized in departments and other academic units, and at-large) and representatives of the Student Government of Loyola Chicago; the Dean of the College and other officers of the University as designated by the Council shall be ex-officio members of the Council, with the right to attend meetings and to address the Council but without the right to vote. The Council performs its functions in advisory capacity to the Dean.

A regular item of the Council's business when it meets each month is to review curricular applications. As of 1 August 2024, these requests are to be submitted through the Curriculum Inventory Management system (CIM). The information proposers need to provide is similar to what the Academic Council, Provost's Office, and Registration & Records requested on previous generations of forms, but the CIM feeds it into an integrated university workflow for all appropriate bodies to review and approve.

CIM forms are designed to request information about proposed curricular changes in as intuitive a fashion as possible, given the underlying programming-architecture of 草莓社区's student information system. They incorporate information from the about existing courses and academic programs. Once proposed changes have been reviewed by all the appropriate bodies through their duly generated workflows and approved, pertinent information is brought back to the student information system and catalog, for the approved effective date.
