How I chose my degree:
I selected this degree as I wanted to make an impact within my struggling communities that I have grown up in my whole life. I knew I wanted to do something within the behavior sciences as I have seen the detrimental effects first-hand of the absence of support resources such as grocery stores and mental health clinics can have on a struggling community. I hope that I can one day become a leader to help others, just as those who have helped me.
What does it mean to go to a Jesuit Institution?
I think going to a Jesuit Institution means so much more than the religious aspect of the school. It means sharing values that not only help and grow the person, but also help grow the community around it. Applying to Arrupe truly has helped me find my voice within a community I was not apart of.
What professor should a new student absolutely take a class with and why?
I would highly recommend Dr. Burke's writing class, Dr. Sirman's biology class, and Dr. Gutierrez's psychology classes. I absolutely adored the passion both professors brought to the classroom and greatly appreciated the support and love that they brought to the students. Truly interesting and kind-hearted professors within their respective fields.
Where is your favorite place on Loyola's campus and why?
Wintrust Hall! I have so many memories of cramming information with my study groups during exam weeks. The memories of all the stories and jokes I cracked with my friends at Arrupe, as well as the overall cozy environment the community provided always made me feel more at home especially as a commuter student.
What is some advice you would give an incoming freshman?
There is one thing in life that isn't promised, and that's opportunity. Meet with your classmates, meet with your professor and staff members. Seek out the person that you want to become. Be passionate, be strong, be ready. Grow from your mistakes, don't let your mistakes make you.
