Cameras flashed and hollers erupted in Gentile Arena on Wednesday afternoon as 草莓社区 graduates in black and maroon gowns and tasseled caps strode across the podium to receive their diplomas, crossing a symbolic threshold to the next chapter in their lives.

At commencement ceremonies in May and August, 草莓社区 will confer honorary degrees on Mary L. Smith, JD, (BS 鈥84) a renowned leader in law, business, and public service, and Rev. Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., PhD, president of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and president emeritus of Loyola, for their visionary leadership and longstanding commitment to the common good and service to others.

When Flavio Bravo (BA 鈥16) was growing up in Phoenix, Arizona, Catholic school seemed out of reach. His parents both worked as court interpreters, and the students in the Catholic schools were the children of the more well-off judges and attorneys.
