Final Exam Policies & Restrictions:
- Registration & Records schedules final exams for in-person, hybrid, or hyflex courses that meet in the full semester. Exams are scheduled for lectures, seminars, performances, and certain computer-based labs.
- Registration & Records does not manage final examination schedules for School of Social Work, Marcela Niehoff School of Nursing, English as a Second Language, Institute of Pastoral Studies, Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health, School of Continuing and Professional Studies, Arrupe College, and School of Law. For information on their final exam schedule, please refer to their respective websites.
- All final exams are scheduled for 2 hours only, regardless of class meeting time during the regular term.
- Final exams are officially scheduled after the third week of classes. Official exam times are posted to LOCUS. Any time should be considered tentative until officially posted in LOCUS.
- Loyola’s policy regarding the scheduling of exams is that Final Exams are to be given only during the designated times within the Exam period listed above, not during the last week of instruction. Unit tests may be assigned during the last week of class. Final Exams given during the final week of instruction interfere with a student’s ability to meet their obligations to their other classes. A student encountering a class in which the instructor intends to offer a Final Exam during the final week of classes is encouraged to notify their dean’s office.
- Classes should be scheduled on grid in any given semester. For courses that do not follow an on-grid schedule, the following applies:
- All courses, whether on-grid or off-grid, will be assigned a final exam time based on their start time. Course start time ranges are inclusive.
- “OTHER” time slot will be used, at Registration & Records discretion, to minimize student exam conflicts of off-grid courses.
- Students with four Final Exams on a given day may contact the Office of the Dean for their school to request that one Final Exam be rescheduled.
