Undergraduate Alumni Spotlight: Pedro Regalado
Pedro A. Regalado received his B.A. magna cum laude in History from 草莓社区 in 2013. Now, he鈥檚 a PhD Candidate in American Studies at Yale University, where his research focuses on the intersection of race, immigration, capitalism, and the built environment during the 20th century. The working title of his dissertation is 鈥淲here Angels Fear to Tread: Latinx Work and the Making of New York.鈥� Most recently, he was awarded the Jefferson Scholars National Fellowship.
In 2017, the Society for American City & Regional Planning History (SACRPH) awarded his paper, 鈥淔ixed Capital: Building Transition and Drug Capitalism in New York City, 1961-1997,鈥� the best student research paper at the 17th National Conference on Planning History, held in Cleveland, Ohio. Pedro鈥檚 work has been featured in the , , , and . He also has recent academic publications in The Journal of Urban History and Ohio Valley History.
Pedro has also recently accepted a Junior Fellowship with the . This postdoctoral position is one of most prestigious and rigorous in the country, allowing Pedro to spend three years pursuing his academic studies in any department of the University free from any formal requirements, including teaching. 鈥�My goal during that time is to turn my dissertation into a book manuscript,鈥� says Pedro. 鈥淚'll be conducting research in New York's archives, recording oral histories, and editing the project's chapters. If possible, I'd also like to get started on a new project as well!鈥�
Of his time at Loyola, Pedro recounts: 鈥淚 received such great guidance from my history professors鈥攊n particular, Michelle Nickerson, Elizabeth Shermer, and Kyle Roberts. They really pushed me to become a better thinker, researcher, and writer. The McNair Scholars program also was instrumental in preparing me for what came next.
